China Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Group Co., Ltd., approved by The State Council, was jointly reorganized by China Energy Conservation Investment Corporation and China New Era Group Corporation in 2010. The holding company of the Group is China Energy Conservation Investment Corporation, formerly known as the Energy Conservation Bureau of the State Planning Commission. In 1988, the Energy Saving Company of the National Energy Investment Company was established after restructuring. In 1994, it was officially renamed China Energy Conservation Investment Corporation. In 1997, China Environmental Protection Corporation under the Ministry of Environmental Protection was incorporated into China Energy Conservation Investment Corporation. China New Era Group Corporation, formerly known as China New Era Corporation, was founded in 1980 under the former Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense. In 1999, it was officially renamed China New Era Group Corporation. In 2004, the No.7 Design and Research Institute under the former Ministry of Machinery Industry (later renamed China New Era International Engineering Corporation) was incorporated into China New Era Group Corporation. In 2006, China Geological Engineering Corporation, formerly affiliated to the Ministry of Geology and Mineral Resources, was incorporated into China New Era Group Corporation.

In 2017, it was restructured into China Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Group Co., Ltd.

2010: On May 19, 2010, China Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Group Corporation was formally established, and the board of directors was set up.

2010: On March 10, 2010, with the approval of the State Council, China Energy Conservation Investment Corporation and China New Era Group Corporation merged, the holding company, China Energy Conservation Investment Corporation being renamed as China Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Group Co., Ltd. The date of registration approved by the State Administration for Industry and Commerce is May 5, 2010.

2007: From 2007 to 2010, the company achieved rapid growth in various operation indicators. Compared with the end of 2006, the asset scale increased by 3 times, the operation income increased by 2.5 times, the total profit increased by 2.6 times, and the net profit increased by 3 times.

2003: In 2003, China Energy Conservation Investment Corporation was placed under the supervision of the newly established State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC) , thus entering the market development stage.

2000: China Energy Conservation Investment Corporation obtained the qualification of project evaluation agency from United Nations Industrial Development Organization.

1999: China Energy Conservation Investment Corporation was put under the management of the Central Enterprise Working Committee.

March 24, 1998: Approved by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, China Energy Conservation Investment Corporation was granted import and export management rights.

1995: The State Planning Commission approved China Energy Conservation Investment Corporation as a comprehensive class A engineering consulting unit, and issued a project consulting qualification certificate.

In July 1994, the Energy Saving Company of the National Energy Investment Company was put under the management of the State Planning Commission. On September 1, the name was changed to China Energy Conservation Investment Corporation.

June 22, 1989: The Energy Saving Company of the National Energy Investment Company was approved and registered by the State Administration for Industry and Commerce.

September 20, 1988: Approved by the State Council, the Energy Saving Company of the National Energy Investment Company was formally established.
