The completion ceremony for the Comoros Highway No. 2 Project was held on July 5, local time, at the Fomboni Sports Center Square in Fomboni, the third-largest city on Comoros Island. The project was undertaken by China Geo-Engineering Corporation (China Geo). The ceremony was attended by Comorian President Azali Assoumani, the Minister of Defense, the Minister of Economy, the Minister of Infrastructure, Governor of Grande Comore Island Ibrahim Mze Mohamed and other senior officials from Comoros. Chinese Ambassador to Comoros Guo Zhijun and Counselor Meng Yuhong were also present at the event.
The Comoros Highway No. 2 Project, which spans 38 kilometers, passing through 17 natural villages and took 24 months to complete. This highway is a major livelihood project for Comoros and one of the most important transportation arteries in the southern part of the island. It is a high-standard, high-quality road. The completion and opening of the highway will promote economic development in the surrounding villages and towns, and its social benefits are significant. It effectively improves the transportation environment, significantly shortens travel time, and resolves the previously inconvenient transportation into a historical issue, greatly enhancing the production and living conditions of people in the region and promoting healthy economic and social development in the southern part of the island.
