The Demonstration Zone of Integrated Green Development in the Yangtze River Delta was established in October 2019 with the approval of the State Council. It covers nearly 2,300 square kilometers in Qingpu of Shanghai, Wujiang of Jiangsu Province and Jiashan of Zhejiang Province. The construction of demonstration zone is an important measure to implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s decision on the solid promotion of the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta, as well as a pioneer and breakthrough to implement the integrated development strategy of the Delta.

Jiashan of Zhejiang Province is an important part of the demonstration zone, as well as the bridgehead for Zhejiang to engage in and promote the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta. The local government insists on the participation and all-round cooperation of the whole society. Under the guidance of the National Development and Reform Commission and other ministries and commissions, the construction of Jiashan zone is advanced with high standards by focusing on the two key points of "integration" and "high quality". Therefore, a number of practical and institutional achievements that can be replicated and promoted have been formed. Among them, Jiashan County and CECEP jointly established the regional water ecological restoration project in Eastern Jiashan, which has become a new green model of ecological restoration in the demonstration zone.

CECEP is a central enterprise with energy conservation, emission reduction and environmental protection as the main business, and always adheres to the purpose of "saving resources and protecting the environment", which has made an important contribution to the start, development and growth of China's energy conservation and environmental protection cause. In 2018, CECEP was designated as a major platform for pollution control in the Yangtze River Economic Belt by the National Office of the Development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt. In 2020, CECEP joined the Developer Alliance of Yangtze River Delta Eco-green Integrated Development Demonstration Zone and became one of the first members of the alliance. CECEP is committed to the protection of the Yangtze River and the green and high-quality development of the Yangtze River Delta.

The eastern Jiashan water ecological restoration project is one of the benchmarks that CECEP has made efforts to build in the Yangtze River Delta Demonstration Zone. It is also the first project focusing on water ecological restoration since the planning of the Yangtze River Delta eco-green integrated development demonstration zone. CECEP gives full play to its professional advantages in the field of comprehensive treatment and restoration of water ecology. Focusing on issues such as water quality of the four outbound state-controlled sections in the eastern region of Jiashan County failing to keep standards, the self-purification capacity of water bodies and the fundamental restoration of the ecosystem, CECEP has coordinated the restoration efforts of ecological wetlands, ecological buffer zones and underwater forests. It focuses on river regulation, ecological buffer zone reconstruction, underwater forest system construction, constructed wetlands and functional supporting facilities. It is committed to improving water quality, stabilizing water ecosystem and improving the carrying capacity of the water environment. The project has an investment of 148 million RMB and is supported by earmarked fund of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment.

At present, the first phase of the project has been completed, the second phase is about to be completed, and the third phase is about to start. Through the implementation of the project, 5,224 cubic meters of silt has been removed, 325,000 square meters of green area has been improved, and about 16,000 square meters of clean water has been achieved. During the designed operation period, the agricultural desalination treatment capacity is about 1,500 tons/day, which significantly improves the ecological environment of the project site and surrounding areas. At the same time, good environmental benefits increase the land value along the river, promote the prosperity and development of related industries such as juvenile research and tourism, and generate significant social and economic benefits while achieving good environmental results, providing a reference business model for the comprehensive improvement of regional environment. In the future, this project will become a benchmark and demonstration of regional ecological and environmental governance, encourage more enterprises to participate in regional environmental governance projects, drive the overall environment improvement and industrial structure adjustment of Jiashan County, promote the formation of an urban pattern with more diversified ecology, more coordinated economy and more beautiful environment, so as to help the Yangtze River Delta demonstration zone to take the lead in achieving green and high-quality development.
